Ingredients
  

Pastry and Filling
  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry (thawed to package directions)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (at room temperature) Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for better mixing.
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring Use to achieve desired pink hue.
  • 1/2 C diced strawberries
Egg Wash
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cold water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Thaw the puff pastry sheet according to package directions, either on the counter for about 2 hours or in the fridge overnight.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Add red food coloring to the cream cheese mixture until you reach your desired pink hue.
  5. Carefully unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into heart shapes using a cookie cutter or a sharp knife.
Assembly
  1. Place the heart-shaped pastry on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Add a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture to the center of each heart.
  3. Top the cream cheese with the diced strawberries.
  4. Cut a small slit in the center of each heart to allow steam to escape.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of cold water and brush it over the edges of each pastry heart.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
