Ingredients
  

Spices and Flavorings
  • 4 pods green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 1 stick cinnamon (about 3 inches)
  • 5 whole black peppercorns
  • 1 inch fresh ginger root, sliced
  • 1 whole star anise (optional) Optional for added flavor
Tea Base
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 bags black tea bags or 2 teaspoons loose black tea (preferably Assam)
Liquid Ingredients
  • 1 cup whole milk or plant-based milk alternative
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Adjust to taste

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a small saucepan, combine water with cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon stick, black peppercorns, sliced ginger, and star anise.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Reduce heat and let the mixture simmer gently for 5 minutes to extract the spice flavors.
  4. Add black tea bags or loose tea to the saucepan and simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the milk and sugar, stirring to dissolve. Return the mixture to a gentle simmer without boiling.
  6. Strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer into serving cups.
  7. Serve hot, optionally garnished with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of ground cardamom.

Notes

If you have leftover tea, let it cool down to room temperature before storing. Pour it into an airtight container and place it in the fridge. It’s best to consume it within a day or two. To enjoy it later, simply reheat in a saucepan, adding a splash of fresh milk if needed.
