Ingredients
  

For the tea
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons black tea leaves
  • 2 pods cardamom (crushed)
  • 1 inch piece ginger (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
  • 1 cup milk Use almond, soy, or oat milk for a vegan version.
  • 1 teaspoon smoky tea (optional) For an extra smoky flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the black tea leaves, crushed cardamom, sliced ginger, and cloves to the boiling water.
  3. Let it simmer for about 5-7 minutes to extract the flavors.
  4. Add sugar to taste and stir well.
  5. Then, add the milk and bring the mixture back to a boil.
  6. Optional: for an extra smoky flavor, stir in smoky tea.
  7. Strain the chai into cups and serve hot.
