  • 2 cups milk Use any type of milk you prefer.
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder Unsweetened cocoa powder is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 4 ounces dark chocolate, chopped Use good quality dark chocolate for best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows for topping (optional) Add for extra richness.

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in the cocoa powder and sugar until dissolved.
  3. Add the chopped dark chocolate and stir until melted and smooth.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  5. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Let any leftover hot chocolate cool to room temperature. Pour into an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
