Preparation
- Chop the chocolate finely so it melts fast.
- In a small pot, pour 2 cups milk and 1 cup heavy cream. Warm on medium-low. Do not boil.
- When the milk is warm, add the chopped dark chocolate and 2 tablespoons powdered sugar. Stir slowly and gently.
- Keep stirring until all the chocolate melts and the liquid is smooth and thick. This takes 3–5 minutes.
- Remove from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Taste and add more powdered sugar if you want it sweeter.
- Pour into mugs and serve immediately.

Serve in small mugs to keep the drink hot longer. Top with whipped cream or cocoa powder if desired. Pairs well with baked cookies, pastries, or savory sides.
