Ingredients

Cake Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (red, green optional for decoration) Optional for festive appearance
  • Icing sugar for dusting
  • Festive decorations (edible glitter, sugar snowflakes) For decoration

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Baking
  1. Divide the batter equally between the two cake pans. If desired, add food coloring to one layer for a festive look.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assembly
  1. Once cooled, layer the two cakes, adding frosting or icing in between if you’d like.
  2. Decorate the top with icing sugar and festive decorations.

Notes

Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Use a toothpick to check if the cake is done before removing it from the oven. For extra flavor, consider adding a bit of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter. Let the cake layers cool completely to avoid melting any frosting.
