Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt together.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth and well combined.
Baking
- Divide the batter equally between the two cake pans. If desired, add food coloring to one layer for a festive look.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Assembly
- Once cooled, layer the two cakes, adding frosting or icing in between if you’d like.
- Decorate the top with icing sugar and festive decorations.

Notes
Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. Use a toothpick to check if the cake is done before removing it from the oven. For extra flavor, consider adding a bit of cinnamon or nutmeg to the batter. Let the cake layers cool completely to avoid melting any frosting.
