  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water for thin batter
Toppings
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced for filling and garnish
  • 1 cup heavy cream for frosting
  • ½ cup powdered sugar for frosting

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat the mixture on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water carefully, as the batter will be thin.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing them.
Frosting and Assembly
  1. Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  2. Place one layer of the cake on a serving plate, spread with frosting, and top with sliced strawberries.
  3. Add the second layer of cake on top, then frost the top and sides of the cake with more frosting.
  4. Drizzle with chocolate shell coating before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, use fresh strawberries. Whipping cream to soft peaks prevents sinking into the cake. You can add vanilla extract to the whipped cream for extra flavor.
