  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces high-quality dark chocolate, chopped Choose chocolate with at least 60% cocoa
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Optional, adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows Optional toppings, to taste

Preparation
  1. Chop the chocolate into small pieces so it melts evenly.
  2. Measure milk and cream.
Cooking
  1. In a small saucepan, warm the milk and cream over low-medium heat. Do not boil.
  2. When the liquid is hot and steamy, remove from heat and add the chopped chocolate.
  3. Stir until the chocolate is fully melted and the mix is smooth. Add sugar if you want it sweeter.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract.
Serving
  1. Pour into mugs while hot.
  2. Top with whipped cream or marshmallows if you like.
