Homemade Chai Tea Latte

Ingredients
  

Spices
  • 2 inches fresh ginger (sliced) Use more for added heat.
  • 6 whole cardamom pods (lightly crushed)
  • 4 whole cloves Reduce for a milder flavor.
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1 pod star anise (optional) Adds depth.
  • ¼ teaspoon black peppercorns
Base Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea Or use 4 black tea bags.
  • 2-3 tablespoons honey or sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 4 cups water
Milk Ingredients
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based) Experiment with different types.
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) For a vanilla chai latte.
  • to taste Ground cinnamon for garnish Adds a nice finishing touch.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Toast the spices in a dry saucepan over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until fragrant.
  2. Add water to the saucepan with the toasted spices and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  4. Add the black tea and turn off the heat, letting it steep for 3-5 minutes.
Finishing Touches
  1. Strain the tea mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, pressing on the solids to extract all the flavor.
  2. Stir in your sweetener while the tea is still hot.
  3. Heat the milk until steaming but not boiling, then froth the milk.
  4. Pour the tea concentrate into mugs, filling them halfway.
  5. Top with frothed milk and a light dusting of ground cinnamon.
