Ingredients

Chai Ingredients
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 2 tea bags
  • 2 tablespoons sugar or to taste
  • 2-4 pods green cardamom
  • 2-4 whole cloves
  • 1 piece cinnamon stick
  • 1 small piece fresh ginger (sliced)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a pot, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the sliced ginger, cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon stick to the boiling water. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to release the spices’ flavors.
  3. Add the loose black tea or tea bags to the pot and let it boil for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Pour in the milk and sugar, then bring the mixture back to a boil.
  5. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for a couple of minutes.
  6. Strain the chai into cups using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves.
  7. Serve your fresh homemade chai hot!

Notes

Adjust the sugar to your taste for a sweeter or less sweet chai. Use fresh spices for the best flavor. Feel free to experiment with different spices like nutmeg or star anise for a unique twist. If you have any leftover chai, let it cool to room temperature and store it in the refrigerator for up to three days.
