Chai Base
  • 2 cups water For boiling.
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 2 tea bags Traditional choice.
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced Fresh ginger for flavor.
  • 2-3 pieces green cardamom pods, crushed Add more for extra spice.
  • 2-3 pieces cloves Optional for depth of flavor.
  • 1 stick cinnamon For warmth and sweetness.
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1-2 cups milk Optional for lattes.

  1. In a pot, bring water to a boil.
  2. Add the sliced ginger, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon stick.
  3. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the spices to infuse.
  4. Add the loose black tea or tea bags and simmer for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  5. Strain the chai into cups, add sugar to taste, and mix in milk if desired.
  6. Serve hot or let it cool for iced tea.
