Ingredients
  

Spices
  • 2 sticks cinnamon sticks, broken into pieces
  • 3 pods star anise pods
  • 1 teaspoon whole cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon allspice berries
  • 1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Tea
  • 2 tablespoons loose-leaf black tea You can substitute with rooibos tea for a caffeine-free version.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Using a mortar and pestle, gently crush the cinnamon, star anise, cardamom, allspice, cloves, and black pepper seeds, crushing each spice one at a time.
  2. Add the ground ginger and loose-leaf black tea to the crushed spices and mix well with the pestle.
  3. Package the mixture in a Mason jar or a decorative bag. Add a label and attach a recipe card. Store on your shelf or gift to someone.
Serving
  1. To serve, add 1-2 teaspoons of the chai mix to a cup of hot water or milk. Let it steep for about 5-8 minutes.
  2. Sweeten to taste with sugar or honey, and enjoy your soothing drink.
Storage
  1. Store your chai tea mix in an airtight container like a Mason jar in a cool, dark place for up to six months.
