Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.
- Stir in the melted butter into the mashed bananas.
- Mix in the baking soda and a pinch of salt.
- Add the sugar, beaten egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the flour. Do not overmix; just stir until incorporated.
- If desired, fold in the walnuts or pecans and chocolate chips.
Baking
- Pour the batter into a greased 4x8 inch loaf pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice the banana bread and serve it warm or at room temperature. It’s delicious on its own, or you can spread a little butter or cream cheese on top. To store, wrap tightly and keep at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
