Ingredients
  

For the chai base
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 stick cinnamon stick
  • 4-5 pods cardamom pods
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, sliced
  • 2-3 whole cloves
  • 1-2 whole black peppercorns
For the adaptogens and sweetening
  • 1 teaspoon astragalus powder
  • 1 teaspoon ashwagandha powder
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey (optional) Adjust to taste
  • to taste Milk or non-dairy milk (optional) Coconut or almond milk recommended for creaminess

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add the cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, ginger, cloves, and black peppercorns to the boiling water.
  3. Reduce heat and let the spices simmer for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Stir in the astragalus and ashwagandha powder, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Strain the tea into a cup, add honey and milk if desired, and enjoy your warming adaptogen chai tea.

Notes
