Sour taste of pickled cabbage in perfect harmony with any meat, so it is a traditional side dish to many meat dishes. This recipe is taken from Latvian cuisine. Cabbage gets well very tasty. The secret is simple — you need lots and lots of carrots. And it certainly rubs on a fine grater. You can, of course, and grate coarsely, but the original is fine.
Ingredients for a stew of fermented cabbage, food recipes:
- 1 kg sauerkraut,
- 0.6 kg of carrots,
- 3 onions,
- Vegetable oil or fat (any — pork, chicken),
- One to two teaspoons of cumin.

Finely chop the onion and fry gently, add the grated carrots and then their little together. Then put the sauerkraut and cover with water — about the level of the layer of cabbage. Leave to stew until tender.
About half an hour add cumin and continue on simmer until soft. Especially tasty cabbage turns cooked in lard.
